Gait Analysis
Running is a skill. Let’s find the intentional shifts that launch you forward.
We believe physiotherapy should do more than just "fix" a problem.
Most runners treat their gait as something that just is. We treat running as a skill that can be practiced, refined, and mastered. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or chasing a personal best, our gait analysis is designed to help you move with more efficiency, more power, and more joy.
Running is ultimately about the management of force and energy. You want to drive maximum force into the ground to propel yourself forward while using the minimal amount of energy to do so.
Through gait analysis, we help you identify:
Energy Leaks: Where are you wasting effort that could be driving you forward?
Injury Resilience: A recent study showed that runners who underwent gait training were 62% less likely to develop an injury over the following year. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, but it can be a big part of staying healthy for the long haul!
Force Management: Are you absorbing impact effectively or is it taxing your joints, muscles, tendons and other tissue to take on more load than necessary?
Let’s find your fast (and keep you healthy).

Our Approach to Run Technique
We don’t just watch you run on a treadmill and hand you a printout. We look at the whole athlete, including your goals, history and experience as a runner. That means:
Comprehensive Movement Screen: Before the treadmill, we dive into your history, training habits, and goals to understand the runner behind the stride. We assess your strength, movement strategies, and mobility to better understand how they play into your movement patterns, performance, and injury history. Our focus isn't on a "textbook" gait, but on finding the most efficient movement strategy for your goals and your body.
Video Gait Analysis: We "nerd out" on the frames that matter, showing you exactly what is happening in your stride in real-time. We don’t just point out what’s happening; we help you understand the why, making connections between your mechanics, your performance goals, and that nagging "niggle."
Collaborative Strategy: We provide simple, personalized cues and run-specific drills that are actionable and digestible. You’ll walk away with a clear strategy you can actually implement on your very next run, ready to move with more confidence and less effort
Our team's deep, personal love for running is the heartbeat of everything we do.
Frequently Asked Questions About Gait Analysis

Please note that, while we are happy to offer this service to runners around the world (and what a delight to connect with and support you!), for it to be billed as Physiotherapy or Chiropractic, the athlete must be in Ontario. If you are not in Ontario, it will be billed as a Coaching service, which may limit your ability to have coverage from your extended health benefits. -

Just your usual running gear and your most-used running shoes (clean, please!). If you use orthotics or specific insoles, bring those too!
-
To ensure we have time for the physical screen, the video analysis, and the implementation of your new plan, we typically book these as a 60-minute session. If you are coming from out of town or anticipate that follow-up sessions will be challenging, please consider booking a 90-minute session.

Do: Wear comfortable running clothes and clean-ish shoes. Ideally, wear contrasting colours (e.g., light top, dark shorts), so your movement patterns are easy to see on camera.
Do: Expect to run on a treadmill for about 5 minutes total.
Don’t: Overthink it. We don't want to see your "pretty" run; we want to see how you move naturally so we can help you build on it.
